The Borgen Project
It can seem like foreign aid isn’t making a dent in the problem of global poverty and that sickness and poverty around the world are unbeatable problems. But in the past 20 years, the number of malnourished people has been cut in half, there are more children in school now than at any time in history, and in the past five years HIV/AIDS mortality has been reduced by 30%, meaning it is no longer the leading cause of death in Africa. Huge strides are being made everyday that move all of us forward – like the Reach Every Mother and Child Act (in Congress now) which seeks to end preventable deaths of mothers and children around the world in the next 15 years!
The Borgen Project is a national nonprofit organization that fights global poverty through education, mobilization, and advocacy. We are volunteers from all over the country working in our own communities to change the global community. We raise awareness on the important issues of poverty around the world and the things that are being done to stop them – like the Reach Every Mother and Child Act – and mobilize our communities around the country to take part in a national movement to prioritize reducing global poverty in our nation’s foreign policy. To learn more and find ways to become a Borgen Project volunteer or take action as a community partner, visit borgenproject.org. Together we can downsize poverty.
